BIOGRAPHY

Dujka Smoje is an honorary professor of musicology at the Faculté de Musique, Université de Montréal, where she spent 35 years of her full-time teaching career. She studied musicology in Sarajevo (former Yugoslavia) and continued in France at the Universities of Paris and Poitiers, where she specialized in medieval music and in contemporary aesthetics. She got there PhD in History (1967).

Her interest is focused on medieval music manuscripts (11th century neumatic sources of sequences) . Very interested in music iconography , in particular abstract painting related to music, she is also exploring the presence of J.S. Bach's works in the 20th century art (Jakob Weder's Farbsymphonien , The Art of Fugue in Lyonel Feininger's paintings
; Chagall - Celebrating Music; Musical Symbolism in Chagall's Paintings).

In aesthetics, she is currently working on inaudible dimensions of music : time, space, movement and aesthetic values as the most significant forerunners of changes in the contemporary creativity.
